Job Title: Senior Mechanical Designer
Department: Automotive Engineering
Job Responsibilities:
- Develop advanced product designs in cooperation with the appropriate engineering disciplines and technicians according to customer and federal regulations and specifications.
- Use CATIA Version 5 (Revision 20 or higher) CAD software or any other equivalent tools at a highly skilled level to develop product concepts and designs of Automotive products and components.
- Create 3D models of product designs, along with internal and customer detail drawings. Use software for all data management and control.
- Work with team of mechanical engineers to design plastic injection molded, cast and stamped hardware and its components per internal and industry best practices. Idea generation/brainstorming.
- Retrieve customer supplied data as starting point and use supplied data to interpret geometry required for component interface.
- Manage data conversions from other CAD packages.
- Prepare relevant data to support customer design reviews.
- Assist design and release engineers in support of component part release, including authoring engineering change notices.
- Stay current on innovative manufacturing processes to facilitate optimal product design using DFA and/or Design for Assembly & Manufacturing methodology.
- Support internal design reviews with peers and management to insure that new product designs are compliant to ‘Best Practices’ and ‘Lessons Learned’ requirements.
Basic Qualifications:
- Education:
- High School Diploma.
- Concentration of courses related to CAD / Design type of work.
- Experience:
- 8-10 Years experience in automotive product design, including:
- Experience in the design of injection-molded plastic components
- Experience in the design of stamped sheet metal components
- CATIA V5 CAD or any other equivalent design skills
- Working Knowledge:
- Minimum 5 years design experience using software including creation of freeform surfaces, solids and detail drawings
- In-Depth understanding of the automotive product design and development process
- Proper drafting, dimensioning and tolerancing techniques, including GD&T
Preferred Qualifications & Desired Competencies:
- Education:
- Associates or Bachelors degree in product design or CAD design
- Experience:
- Experience with the automotive OEM vehicle development process for OEMs such as Chrysler, Ford, GM, or Toyota
- Experience using other CAD tools, especially Unigraphics and ProEngineer
- Working Knowledge:
- Previous BMS, VCU, MCU experience
- Experience in the design and engineering of die-cast metal components
- Experience using MS Office s/w, especially Excel and PowerPoint
